Chicken Pox

We have been waiting for the chicken pox fairy to visit our house for a long time.  Finally the beginning of November she sprinkled us with poxie dust.  Mom didn't want to give us the vaccine since it is so new and untested. Daddy got shingles out of the blue and all us kids got pox within 24 hours of each other.

Mom said whenever we got chicken pox she would spoil us. We got chicken pox and along with it came root beer and ginger ale, ice cream and pudding, books and movies.
Jayce had it the worst and we all felt sorry for him, Alexis had the least and felt the best. The worst part was having to do school.  Mom didn't make us do it every day and we didn't do a lot but she made us do some so we didn't get too far behind.

Even though all the "spoiling" was nice, we were so sick it wasn't fun. I wish Mom would spoil us when we feel good enough to enjoy it. :-)

Halloween at the Washboard

What a lot of different people from different time periods. Since our church didn't do its halloween festival we celebrated halloween at the Washboard. Trick or Treat.

Jenny Wieser with her twins and baby Beau.
Yikes! Why can't kids wear nice disguises instead of monster costumes.
What a lot of bandits! I hope the cash register is locked.
Alexis the shadow waits for an unsuspecting visitor to dive upon.
Help! There's a gigantic bat in the Washboard.
Beautiful golden sunset.

Alectra and Alexis 8th Birthday

The girls had to wait for their birthday party since we thought we had chicken pox.  They finally had a party on the 28th of Oct.  We had a pumpkin party!  All the girls got to choose a pumpkin to decorate.  Summer and Bethany are creating a masterpiece.
Pumpkins playing Piano!
We had to have the traditional ice cream bar cake decorated with crushed oreos and graham crackers, pumpkin candy and gummy worms. Pumpkin patch cake.
After presents and cake, Warren took the girls on a hayride.  What a bunch of screaming, squealing girls.
Wonderful bunch of friends!
The party ended with a Playmobile extravaganza!  Thirteen girls in the living room building farms, mermaids mansions, and all sorts of other imaginative fun.

Fall Harvest

Alectra grew the most beautiful marigolds this summer.  She was sad when the frost came and made them wilt.
Our wagon of plenty. Alectra grew an apple tree from seed, buckets of tomatoes, squash and lots of pumpkins. Jayce is holding the last of the summer butterflies.
Warren went out to sit on the pole barn during moose season and kept stepping on something in the grass.  Finally he pulled the grass back and found puffball mushrooms.  We harvested a dishpan full in just a few minutes.  I sauteed them and put them in the freezer.  They were sooo yummy!
Warren was in charge of the potatoes this year.  I have failed to produce a good crop for several years so he volunteered.  He had an amazing crop! WOW!
Red, White and Blue!
Tomotoes laid out to ripen in the schoolhouse kitchen.
